11/20/2023 0 Comments Keep calm postersWe are now stocking the Barter Books’ Keep Calm and Carry On poster to allow its message to reach an even wider audience.Ī little known fact about the poster: the second ‘R’ in ‘Carry’ looks a bit truncated in the original poster (the slogan was hand-drawn after all), so a designer was commissioned by Barter Books to make the poster’s version of the second ‘R’ look similar to the original’s first normal looking ‘R’ in ‘Carry’. The poster drew so much comment that they had it reproduced for sale. They had the poster framed and put up on display in the book shop, and delved deeper into the history behind it. Understandably, they fell in love with the poster: “…the way the simplicity of the design matched the simplicity of the message.” (Stuart from Barter Books). Barter Books, One of Britain’s Largest Second-Hand Bookstores, discovered this original World War II poster in a box of old books from a customer’s attic. The Keep Calm poster, meant to be distributed in the event of a German invasion, was extremely obscure for many decades.
